New Concrete Streets in Los Gatos Prove to be Resilient, Safe and Cooler in Temperature

In the early 1930’s, history was made when 10 concrete pavement roads were built in Almond Grove, a neighborhood in Los Gatos, CA near Silicon Valley. For an astounding 85 years the town had benefited from concrete pavement’s resilient, safe, and cooler surface temperature in comparison to asphalt, leading to the decision to repave the road with concrete once again. The roads were finished in 2019, and are expected to perform 3-5 times better in terms of long-term maintenance, resulting in an approximate 25 percent cost savings for the town.

“The Town of Los Gatos reconstructed the Almond Grove concrete streets to preserve the historic nature of the area and also to provide a roadway that, with minor maintenance, should perform well for many years,” said Lisa Peterson, Town Engineer and Assistant Public Works Director for Los Gatos.
